Review: “Glee”
Yesterday I watched FOX’s very improbably show, “Glee“. (And yes, I know, I’m late to the show. And they have a Wiki already??)
Can I just take a moment to say I loved every minute? OK, I know, that lead singer girl is horrible and did a horrible thing. And yea, it’s about (blech) high school. And yes, Glee Club is filled with all the rejects.
After all, 30 years ago, I too went to high school. And I tried out for Glee, but I hated the teacher who ran it. She was a nasty nun who tried very hard to destroy my love of science, did not need her imposing on my love of singing and music. (Never mind that I’m tone deaf and have to work my butt off to hold a note.) And yea, I was not popular. I was only unpopular 2 out of my 4 years (it was Catholic high school, as you may have figured out when I mentioned the nun). That just goes to show you the weird, weird world of New York City private high schools.
But back to Glee: I guess what made this entire show really stand out for me was Artie. He’s a singer and a musician and paralyzed from the waist down. Just to see him rocking out at the performance from his wheelchair kind of gave me a tiny inkling of hope for the future of people with disabilities every where.
Really. A TV show having a character with a disability in its main cast. Isn’t it true that I can count shows like that on my hand? (Or my finger?)
What are the odds it will be cancelled before the season even starts?

I hope it doesn’t get canceled! I loved it too! I loved that they sang Journey!

I too was hooked on Glee as soon as I watched it, as were my children and my husband. It’s so upbeat, and upbeat is a good thing especially these days. My husband is the TV addict and pop-culture specialist. He tells me that there is a “Save Glee” group on Facebook. Nothing like being proactive in dealing with a potential cancellation.

I hope it gets renewed, we’ll see. Couldn’t find the Save Glee FB page. I’ll look later.
