Running Down a Dream…

I’ve been meaning to post this a few days, but I got kicked off my butt to do it now after reading, Living A Dream – What’s Yours?
This is because I’ve recently started a new plan to go TOWARD my dreams, all of them, and the more I learn, the more I’m realizing that nothing is wasted. From the college classes I took straight outta high school when pursuing the “wrong” degree, to the recent new dream of becoming a “story teller” that I discovered at this spring’s writer’s conference, nothing at all has been wasted.
I want to podcast fiction, which accomplishes several goals:
- becoming a novelist
- podcasting
- story-telling
- offering something cool for you guys
- creating book trailers
Back in the day, I was not allowed to study English, so I studied Communications Arts (not to be confused with Communication in general), and it was pretty much considered a Bull-S*** degree. However, I did learn radio, journalism, TV and film production (worked in those last two a bit). Add that to my writing background, my blogging, SEO and social marketing skills and throw in a dash of graphic design, and there you have it, PERFECT career for me: podcast novelist.
This does not mean I’ll dump my other careers, it just means that living as published, money making author is achievable in my near-future.
Never would have believed it before…
To learn more about podcasting your novel, check out this:

PS, if you are a writer of any genre interested in getting published, I recommend subscribing to The Creative Penn.
PPS, if you like podcasted novels try these:
- The Goblin Market: Fantasy and fairy tale
- Trapping a Duchess: if Jane Austen’s your thing, you’ll like this.
Enjoy!

I didn’t go to college until I was twenty-six. By that point, I was in control of what I wanted to study, but the advisers I had thought I was insane when I switched my major from criminal psychology to creative writing. Criminal psych was just the avenue that finally got me into college, but the real reason I was there was because I loved words and wanted nothing more than to pursue an education in English and literature. I got a lot of slack when I switched majors, told I’d wind up working at Wendy’s or Burger King with that kind of degree… and while that is always a possibility, I have worked freelance since I graduated, so ptuey on you, advisers.
Good for you, following your dream. It’s a long and winding path sometimes, but the scenery is amazing!
Hi Jennifer, thank you so much for the encouragement! I do want to finish to study both literature (which I feel is lacking in my background) and more employable forms of writing (business, journalism).
It is an amazing road, full of both joy and pain, but worth every moment.
Hi Gina,
I am so glad you enjoyed Tee’s podcast and also that you have found something you really want to do! I love listening to Tee and the other podcast novelists – they are a great bunch of people!
You might also try Pip Ballantine (Chasing the Bard), Mur Lafferty, JC Hutchins for some other perspectives.
I am currently starting a novel as well and definitely intend to podcast it!
Thanks again, Joanna
Hi Joanna, how lovely to have you post here! You’re welcome… I subscribe to your blog and think the posts and ‘casts give all-around great advice. Thanks for the other suggestions. I’m a HUGE Mur Lafferty fan, I’ve heard every episode of hers. She’s a huge help and a nice person too.
