Giveaway & Review: Dutch Springs Water Park
CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED. The winner is Idriys – congratulations!
Thanks to everyone who played. Please come back for more giveaways!
Thanks to rambling around on Twitter, I was fortunate enough in the last few weeks to score some tickets to Dutch Spring Aqua Park in Bethlehem, PA. Dutch Springs is truly one of a kind. It was initially a quarry, until the owners went out of business in the 70s. The quarry was allowed to flood and viola! A natural water hole was born.
The Aqua Park is a dedicated area filled with floats to try your hand at climbing and jump on – or fall off! The water area is 50 feet deep in this area, and all swimmers here are required to wear life vests. (That’s why we did not bring Zoe.) I am a huge CHICKEN in the water, so just bobbing in the cool, black water was an act of fearlessness on my part. We were lucky – it was a flawless day on Saturday, 70s to 80s, and clear skies all the way. I heard the water was freezing, but I didn’t think it was too bad at all. Amelia did not want to climb up the floats, but she had a great time laughing at Chris as he climbed some, and fell off others. All her swimming skills were put to use and she had a fantastic time!
We ate a quick lunch after swimming for a few hours, and then went to Sky Challenge. Amelia got a little scared, but Chris and I were actually brave enough to walk the planks. She did, however, attempt rock climbing a little bit – the only thing she really wanted to do was push away! We had a fantastic time, and we didn’t even get to try the paddle boats!
Another neat thing is that Dutch Springs has a 50 acre Scuba area. Amelia was impressed with all the groups of people in full gear.
Giveaway
I am giving away 4 tickets to Aqua Park is open 7 days a week from now through Labor Day, so if you are going to be near Bethlehem, PA in the next few weeks, put a comment here and I will enter you to win 4 free tickets! Please enter the contest by 4pm, EST, Friday, 8/13, 5pm, by entering your name and a valid email in the comments below. I’ll use randomizer.org to select a winner at random. Easy-peasy. Then if you want to go this weekend, I can arrange to give you the tickets, otherwise I’ll mail them to you.

Giveaway: “Zebrafish” Visual Novel
What is “Zebrafish“? Zebrafish tells the story of friends who form a rock band. The tween garage band uses music to make a difference and encourages kids everywhere to change the world. Their first concert is a fundraiser for the hospital that treats their bandmate with leukemia.
This neat little book is Amelia’s first graphic novel! And that’s totally fine by me…I fell in love with author extraordinaire Neil Gaiman thanks to a graphic novel. And bah! on X-Men movies, Wolverine is far cooler in the comic.
So, for a first graphic novel, “Zebrafish” is cool, fun, and has a great message of hope for kids who need help – which, as you know, is something I’m all about! You can learn more and watch webisodes starring the book’s characters at Generation Cures and at Zebrafish.
The Rules: If you’d like a copy of Zebrafish for your tween, here’s what you’ve got to do:

Giveaway: 100% Bamboo bag & Stainless Steel food container
This contest is now closed. Winner will be picked this weekend. Thank you to all the participants!
This week’s giveaway is something a little different! During the schoolyear, New Wave Enviro sent me a bamboo lunch bag, and a stainless steel food container. Amelia has been using these products – and I love them!
The lunch bag is made of 100% bamboo – and, oh it is soft and luscious. God forbid there is ever a lockdown at school, Amelia can certainly sleep on it! But more importantly, it is light-weight, durable, and both anti-bacterial and hypoallergenic. (Who knew that about bamboo?) Plus, it’s environmentally conscious – bamboo is the fastest growing plant on earth. (One caveat… don’t wash this product! Yes, it’s right on the label, but I was too busy to look. It only shrunk a little, but I won’t make that mistake again! The second product is a stainless steel food container, making this a great lunchtime combo. One thing I really like about it the container that I no longer have to worry about crushed PB&J sandwiches! It’s also super-easy to clean and completely non-toxic.
This package has made lunch prep easier and, of course, fits right in with Amelia’s 7 Generations School. I’m betting that this combo is also a really good product for kids with food allergy issues.

Congratulations to Janet F. of Grammy Janet’s Place.
Thanks to everyone who participated. Keep watching for more Mom-Blog giveaways!
I am SO excited about this giveaway! “Sid the Science Kid” is a huge hit with my Zoe and, I’ll admit, I love it too. (“I love my mom, my mom is cool! But now it’s time for having fun at school!”) I saw this toy online just a day ago and Amelia said, “Look! The science kid!” She was completely enamored with today’s roly poly bug episode.
The Jim Henson Company and KCET (PBS/L.A.) are sponsoring this giveway of the new Sid the Science Kid Talking Toy, pictured at the right. Push his tummy and he talks. Zoe is going to go ballistic when she sees this toy! I’m thrilled.
