This week was better BUT it wasn’t easy. I had allergies, and I’m pretty sure I was courting a cold or virus. That was early in the week – Tuesday or Wednesday. I didn’t want to take a whole bunch of stuff, and I didn’t have the luxury of lying around in bed. My work week was drastically reduced from the holiday and early dismissals.
I had some natural remedies lying around, but I had the good fortune Monday of trying my first-ever green smoothie, courtesy of The American Vegetarian Cookbook from the Fit for Life Kitchen* and The American Vegetarian Cookbook from the Fit for Life Kitchen*
:
My own mishmash, slightly-off-recipe formula:
Ingredients include a fistful of kale, a teaspoon or 2 or 3 of Bob’s Red Mill Organic Flaxseed Meal, 16-Ounce Packages,* a banana, about a cup or a little less of water, and whatever fruit I’ve got in the fridge that’s sweet, then blend FOREVER. I did use ALL three speeds – high, low, and ice crush, but I can’t remember the order! Blend it until you don’t see pieces of kale. This is actually easier when the kale is fresher, those little pieces stick in your throat!
So I did down a glass of this instead of anything else when I felt sick, and low and behold, I had nothing but a minor runny nose and a minor sore throat. Yeeha!
I only did one strength workout, so I’m still missing the boat, but I had one of these babies every day. It’s filling and can totally replace breakfast or lunch. I’m so excited, and I feel so good!
Caveats: Don’t drink a smoothie just before a workout (you’ll get queasy) OR with a high calorie cupcake (it’s a Carb Bomb and it hurts!)
Another thing I discovered: a smoothie and a workout is EXCELLENT for your libido
How was your week? Still have a lot to do to motivate myself on the exercise, but at least I did one day, which is better than zero!

I love my green smoothies. Last week when I started using MyFitnessPal, I discovered that I was making rather a high calorie smoothie some mornings – I’m looking for some great adaptations. My biggest problem is that I don’t like fruit.

Oh, that’s a big problem! Can you do a veggie one? Any fruit at all you like? Do you like coconut? Yea, my worry is sugar content – but I’m reading a book that it doesn’t matter. We’ll see.
I like smoothies, but I just had MAKING them. Maybe I need a better machine!

Go for it! The trick is to blend a LONG time – until the kale is not even little pieces. AND don’t use too much kale …the more you use, the less sweet the drink is. Good luck!
Oh I love smoothies! I only do fruit so far but love blending with avocados!

That’s a great suggestion, of course, I love avocados just the way they are
