Do you have your children on a gluten-free diet and struggling with the fact that you are not on one? Are you worried every time you make gluten-filled toast and there are crumbs everywhere?

It’s true that my kids are gluten-free and my husband and I are not, and a child on the gluten-free diet for autism needs to be 100% gluten-free…not a molecule can get through. And, we’ve had lots of setbacks in just ordinary things – like Zoe stealing bread from the people we are dining with, when we’re not looking. (Yup, that was Saturday.) Those infractions set you back to day one of a dietary restriction that takes months to eliminate.

When I got the chance to check out Norwex Microfiber Cloths, I was excited. These cloths are specifically made to clean up those molecules of crumbs off of counters, floors, windows – whatever you’ve got! Microfiber cloths only need water for you to clean, and to sweep up, they need nothing. They last a very long time (500 washings) and while a cloth is a $30 product, you will save over the cost of buying nasty, dirty, reusable (and impossible to clean) sponges.

How do I know it’s good?

Good question. When you use them to clean crumbs, it looks just a bit cleaner than if you use a sponge, because the real cleaning is going on a microscopic level. The scientists at Norwex did a study in a hospital using the Norwex cloths and only water, then took bacteria samples. The cloths were laundered and used again. The tests confirmed that the cloths removed 99.9% or more of a bacteria often seen in hospitals.

How does it work?
Norwex’s cloths have silver agent woven in that can kill the bacteria left in the cloth.  As of now, there are no other microfiber cloths on the market that can do this.  In addition, the fibers are as fine a strand of hair split 600 times, that has “grabbing” power to pick up dirt (like a Swiffer on a microscopic level).  That means you don’t have to use chemicals!  Just your microfiber cloths will be enough.

What products do they have?
Glad you asked! For cleaning, Norwex sells microfiber cloths for general cleaning, for window and glass cleaning, and for floors, they have a mop system using the same cloths.  They even carry a dusting mitt.

In addition to the general cleaning cloths, Norwex sells cloths for face and body.  That’s right – you can now clean your face using nothing but water!  I have a sample of the body cloth, which can be used for both.  The first time I used it on my face, I was a little rough – you have to be gentle unless you have the softer face cloth.  The body cloth cleared up the very light eczema I’ve had on the back of my arms and legs after a few days.  Amazing  Not only that, but they also carry kid and  baby towels and cloths.

Any downsides?
There is one – you cannot wash these with other towels or cloths, which means you have to be VERY vigilant when you work in a household like mine.  If you do, the towel will lose its effectiveness – a heavy price to pay for careless laundering.  Also, pay strict attention to the washing directions.  I did not, and ended up staining mine the first week.

I highly recommend this product.  Check out Norwex and their complete line of products here.

I can’t speak for all their products so I’ve only mentioned what I thought was perfectly safe. I don’t think silver is harmful and that’s really all I can tell is in the original microfiber.

Thanks for the info on the towels. The product is new to me. I have pinned your item on my Green Board on Pinterest. I am very interest in the face & body towels. I am hopping on Costcutters hop. Have a fun week!

Thank you Gina for the honest review of our Norwex products. I just wanted to clarify a few items in your blog. The cloths are not ruined if you wash them with towels or fabric softener. If you happen to have a laundry mishap, just boil them for 12-15 minutes. That allows the microfibers to swell and release any lint, fabric softener to make them as good as new.

The stains you mentioned left in the cloth does not change it’s effectiveness. Since these cloths can be used on any surface in your home, car, etc., they are bound to get dirty.

Because of the manufacturing process, the silver is embedded in the cloths, you do not need to worry about the silver being left on any surfaces.

The $30 cost includes 2 antibacterial microfiber cloths. The Enviro cloth is used dry to dust, wet (just water) everywhere else to effectively clean all surfaces (even carpet stains) Use the Window cloth after the Enviro cloth on shiny surfaces, i.e. windows, granite, stainless steel, mirrors for a beautiful shine. The combination will save you time, money and reduce the use of any kind of cleaning products.

Lastly – a typical microfiber you get in a store is 1/6-1/12th the size of a strand of hair and Norwex Microfiber is 1/100th and holds up to 7 times it weight in matter. Add that to the silver that is in the cloth that self purifies itself.

Any other questions, feel free to email me – I love all the microfiber products – Debbie – the face and body towels are great – only water, they are great at exfoliating and have the antibacterial properties as well.

I hope that explains why they are worth every penny. No more cleaning aisles!!
